Anyone know anything about this bass?

Hi everyone, hoping someone can help and thanks in advance!

I'm being offered this bass in a swap deal (not agreed to it yet) and I'm thinking about it.

The guy says this is a 74 p bass all original body and parts but with a aftermarket neck. I can see that the neck isn't straight, so might look to replace or fix, but I was wondering if there is anything I should look for to make sure the body is genuine?

There is a lot wrong going on there.

• There appears to be a truss rod adjustment wheel at the heel of the neck. That’s not a normal Fender thing, especially for that era. The body would have to be modified to make room for that wheel.
  
• Those look like some knobs. I could be wrong, but I don’t think those were standard for that era.
  
• Is that a chuck of wood missing on the treble side of the neck pocket?
• Can you get pictures of the neck plate and/or the neck pocket? Dates on the potentiometers would help too.

Knobs look correct, ditto on everything else.

Neckplate looks a little off. Is there a serial number on the plate? Looks like it might be a MIJ copy. Not worth very much.

I’d steer clear of that bass period. There’s no “vintage”value at any rate. The body is modified, that’s not a Fender neck plate, the domed knobs aren’t original, etc.
The bridge is about the only thing that looks intact and the fact that it’s maxed out for string length makes me wonder how successful the neck swap situation went.
Maybe it plays and sounds good but based on the pics it looks like a bit of a mess imo.
