Anyone like wide 7 strings?

Dreaming out loud again. I like wide spacing, but I'm at my current limit on 6. Does anyone here play 7(or more  )w/wide spacing? I'm talkin' 3/4" at the bridge.

Hit my limit at 6 as well, although I always much prefer a wider spacing. My hand cramps up if the spacing is too narrow. . . sorry, not so relevant to the thread topic, I'm just a bit bored. :help:

sorry, bassteban....my conk's are set at 5/8"
:(

I don't mean to imply that what I like is superior, by any stretch of the imagination. I'm not in any position to be 'considering' a 7, but we all dream, don't we? So I was just curious as to whether I would want to go for the insanely-wide-for 7-strings 3/4" spacing, or if anyone ever has. :hmm:

-but 5/8"? FIVE EIGHTHS??? That's just wrong. ;)

Totally revelant- I'm interested in any thoughts on spacing at or about my current 'comfort level', more or less(6 strings). My problem w/narrow spacing is bumping into the wrong strings all the time. :bassist: -oops :bassist: -oops :bassist: -Aaaah, that's it!

I think Brad has at some point in his life owned every bass ever made, hasn't he??

:D

(Love that Zon fretless!!! :hyper: )

Seems like it sometimes but there are a bunch of basses I've never owned and some I'm sure I'll never own;)

That Surine is 19mm spacing. One more string than I really cared for but I got a stooopid deal on it. My AJ6 has even wider spacing. I prefer wide spacing... and sixes over sevens.

Nah...got four 5's with 5/8 spacing (well, 16.5mm which I think is the same). I like it; I feel like I have more control over the instrument. It does seem like most like a wider spacing tho. A buddy of mine here has a 6 with 3/4" spacing and I can't even begin to feel comfortable on it.

Been thinking of building a 6 with a nut of 2" and heel of 3"...might be interesting. :eyebrow:

I like wide for the same reason little kids get the bigger legos- manual dexterity, or the lack thereof. My Stambaugh 6 is 3/4" @ the bridge, & is a hair wider than my Ken Smith was @ the nut, whatever that was. Actaully that Surine up there looks almost tight to me- someday...

Oh, & I dig your piccolo stuff.

Thanks...you don't wanna know the spacing on my piccolo. ;)

Actually, it's about the same. Originally I tried putting the 5 piccolo strrings on a regular 4 string neck. That was too tight even for me. I ended up having Karl Hoyt build me a 31" scale neck that was just a bit wider than a 4; worked out great. :hyper:

Ummm... 3/4 = 6/8. That's one more;)
