Double Bass Anyone own one of these things?

I bought one and the kudos from musicians and audiences alike is staggering about the tone....and the visuals. Also, it seems like people haven't ever seen an EUB before. Which surprises me because EUB's have been around for at least 2 or 3 decades.

Your post reminds me of a story from my producer pal Simon Widdowson, who told me how while living in Ireland came into possession of a Farfisa organ that he began playing at gigs around town. He quickly became known as the "magic organ man," and he was amused but a little nonplussed as he said the "mojo" was all baked into the tone of the instrument, thus leaving him to feel like he was "getting away with something."

I've got my eye on one of these. I first started seeing info about them back at the beginning of the year, but no one seemed to have them. They must have recently become available. Where did you end up getting yours at?

I bought it sight unseen, no reviews, on the strength of the video above. Sweetwater had a no interest deal if I got their credit card. It was supposed to be here in September, but then I got a call from Sweetwater in early June that they "got one in".

I think it was a return, frankly. It came fully tuned properly, which made me wonder. Anyway, I'm very happy with it. Sturdy stand, although something in the stand makes a rattling noise when I play it acoustically. Tone -- listen to it in the video. Easy to play -- really easy to play, easy to transport, although the stand makes it heavier than I would like in the case. The case is good quality, big zippers and tough exterior. Looks fabulous and audiences love it. I feel like I'm cheating with it because audiences and other musicians carry on about my playing on it when I know I'm not a fabulous player. Son of Wobble's post is a case in point.

It does sound nice in that video, but of course it doesn't sound like a DB...it sounds like a fretless BG (esp. with the way it was recorded).

BTW, EUBs have been around for more than 3 decades, more like 6 going on 7. Framus began manufacturing their Triumph bass in 1953. There were some EUBs before then that never got into serious production, like one Paul Tutmarc made back in 1935!!!! Tutmarc also made a bass guitar 15 years before Leo Fender came up with the Precision Bass. The first EUB most American players would have seen was the Ampeg Baby Bass, which began production in 1962. I saw a blue one used by a C&W band at a local amusement park when I was a kid.
