Double Bass Anyone tried a Kona Walking Bass?

This is a 3-string EUB, just a stick, uses nylon strings. Is there anyone in Seattle in possession of one that I could hear before I leave for Hawaii?

I tried one once. Pretty surprising sound. Very low tension, more of a niche instrument for people who want to lay down simple, rootsy bass. I played a four-string model, I don't know if Bob does those anymore.

Go talk to the builder, "Kona Bob", if you're on the Big Island. Helluva nice guy.

Thanks. That answers my question very well. It sounds like it's more of a folk instrument, good in that context, but because of the low string tension, doesn't speak with authority, or have good articulation.

Bob is a helluva nice guy. I will go and meet him while I'm there, possibly buy the bass.

I just finished my 239th Walkingbass... I have them in Germany, France, Japan, Australia, England, Canada, All over the USA, and plenty of them here in Hawaii.
The music department at the University of St. Louis has 2 of them. The professor told me that he is trying to get bass players to be able to think in different tunings.
