Double Bass anyone try these cheap guts?

Maybe he was referring to Orchestra players. That would make sense in my mind.

I believe this thread is about all gut strings on e-bay, not Olivs or Eudoxa's or similar modern strings. If my experience with Lenzers is representative for unwound guts - and no reason to believe that the Indian strings on ebay would be very different - I doubt that too many jazz or classical players would use them. As I said, they are fun to play, easy on your hands, wonderful for slap, but at least the lower two strings will turn an upright to a close cousin of the washtub. Nothing wrong with that for the right kind of setting.
Actually, I was talking more about violinists, violists (?) and cellists... it seems that bassists are the only ones still regularly using gut...

No, the Clef Guts are no where near the same.
We did buy from them once and sold them at our cost on the website as Emerson Guts. They were horrible...and not even mutton serrosa, IMO. They swear it is not beef serosa and that it is mutton...but it just doesn't feel right to be mutton.
I think King Double Bass still buys them and sells them cheap...they tend to get 50/50 reviews from the Rockabilly crowd.
Our Clef Guts are from Europe, bought in bulk with a marketing agreement to not disclose the source. The brand name they also sell as gets mentioned here pretty often though...
I have written to the Emerson Corporation MANY times as they are using our picture in copyright violation, I think it is this one in fact:

I just bought a set of these Emerson guts (cheap for the price), mainly just for fun on my cheap and cheery double bass. I've tried the Clef gut too in the past, they were ok, nice tension or lack of....i'll post a review of the Emerson guts when i put em on.
My Emerson set just arrived, however the string ends are not knotted, any ideas how you put a knot in these strings?
Soak the ends (few inches) in warm water, and knot them after they soften up. Let them dry, and then string em up.

Thanks for the fast reply, how long do you soak em? I'm only going to use the D & G as i like the clarity of pitch i get from my LaBella Supernil E & A. As i recall from my experiences with Clef Guts, the E & A were pretty muddy to discern the pitch. Also I thought Emerson use mutton not beef serosa?
Ok, got it done, had to use pliers in the end. I've put them in a cellophane bag with some cold pressed extra virgin olive oil in the hope that'll soften them up a bit. I'll put them on my bass tomorrow.
