Double Bass Anyone using a single Phil Jones C2 for DB gigs?

Looking for a small cabinet to pair with an Aguilar TH350 (Realist foil pickup through Baggs Para-Acoustic preamp) for DB gigs, generally roots Americana vein, a little bit of swing jazz kind of stuff. Considering the PJB C2 both for its size and the idea that the speakers being close to the ground may help in situations where tight stage space makes feedback an issue when I have the amp close to the back of my bass. I usually have about a foot of endpin out so wondering if the speaker would project "under" the bass rather than the bass blocking the speaker. I've previously used a Cab 27 but found the rear-port design to be kind of temperamental depending on the wall material or whether there was a curtain behind it, but I noticed the 5" speaker cabs have the port on the front. Opinions?

I haven't used PJB C2 but I used one or two homemade cabs with 6" speakers and liked it. Bigband and jazz combo. I never lacked volume, nor lows, especially when I used Realist copperhead or lifeline. I experience - but never seriously studied it - that the smaller is the speaker, the less feedback occurs. PJB C2 is 8 ohm, so you can use two of them with your Aguilar if in need for bigger bottom.

I would consider whether playing into the floor is wise. The smaller the cab, the lower its 'area coverage', in my experience. You generally want the cab to play into your ear. When you hear yourself well, the others can usually hear you too. You might put the cab so it will play upwards, but when I tried it I was never really satisfied with this setup. I almost always put the cab on a chair, and place it on my right side, in the aproximate direction where I would downbow on E string. When the amp plays 'into the corner' of the body, feedback issues seem smallest. I can always deal with feedback with phase switch (invert on your Baggs?). I use Ehrlund pickup, which is much more prone to feedback than Realist, and never have a problem. In time, i traded my homemade cabs for 12" Eich cab, which is light enough, and provides much nicer area coverage.

I have a C2 + Warwick Gnome combo as well. It works fine for lower volume gigs. There's obviously a limit to what you can do with a cab that small but it can get louder than most would think. It's great if you're in a situation where the amp is just giving your acoustic tone a little push. I also have a C4 that, IMO, works quite a bit better but it's also nearly 30lb.

I've moved on from them and have been using a Barefaced 110 the last few months. It's about the same weight as a C2 but can get much louder than the C4. The downside of the Barefaced being the upfront cost if you can't find a used one.
