Appearance of the Stage - Does It Make A Difference?

Exactly. Sound guys and other entertainment people will respect you a little more if you have functioning gear that does not look like an absolute mess on stage.

Yep. One thing I've learned is that nothing drives a sound engineer more batty than a bunch of extraneous hum from bad equipment or too much gain on a rig with no gate. There are too many guitar players who are willing to fork out 3G+ for the high-gain amp but don't buy the relatively inexpensive Roctron Hush so we don't have to hear their rigs buzzing like weedwackers when they're not playing.
