I really dislike changing strings and believe that they can remain there for a while. I have brought strings like in 2017 or 2016 from folks here that I still haven't put on,
I have someone adjust the post, fixed the bridge, plane the finger board and raise the saddle on my 2 basses more times than I have changed strings and that has more impact than any string change. (I actually know how to adjust the post now (I did a bad job on my first attempt though)
New to you bass - bring it to your luthier even if you think it's perfect, then buy strings later unless the windings are actually gone or you can see what the sheep or cat ate before it was slaughtered. Of course my advice is detrimental to commerce and just my opinion.
Someone might recommend you to drop some serious coin on Sonores or those starvation inducing Pirastro guts and that could be the answer.

OP already bought strings - apologize for not reading. If you do get into the string changing rabbit hole, you may like to consider Flexocore Deluxe. Like Spiro but a little more bowable and complex sounding as well.
Your advice is sound though. I have a theory that everyone judges their bass off of what they spent the first few years of playing on. For me thats spiro mediums. Whenever I get a new bass, I throw a set on and then get it setup by the luthiur i know and trust. After that I know how to assess the bass.
