Arctic monkeys bassists

could he be one of the best bassists of altern/ indie rock?

i think so, he plays the best, most well fitting not over the top but not atrociously basic basslines i have heard in a long time. Bassists, in fact all musicians in this genre are seen as being not as good because unless they go into the experimental side it is not realt all that flashy but i think that this is bassist worthy to stand along with the greats.

IMO he is WAAY better than the deep purple guy or geezer butler but then again im no classic hard rock fan.

I think you might be killed for the Geezer comment, best to leave the who's better than who out and just comment on the quality of the bassist(s) in question, saves on flaming space lol!

Anywho, arctic monkeys have some good basslines going on but I still remain adament that Nikolai Fraiture of the strokes has some of the best indie style basslines I've heard. Likewise, the first Franz Ferdinand album was refreshingly groovy with songs like 'This Fire' etc. The first killers album had its moments too!

yea the strokes do have pretty good basslines but i admit allthough they are awsome i don't seem to listen to them much, there is allways a bands album a want more.

i have both of franz ferdinands albums and they dont compare IMO. And i think it is the guitarist which is the brains and the bassist just fits. I dunno maby its just because arctic monkeys appeal to my taste more. I <3 their vocals :P.

Hmm, If you stretch the "indie" Genre a bit, Theres a band called the departure which have a fantastic Funk/Soul bassist. With a fantastic sound.

Check them out, Hes seriously got a good groove, which fits well, but is also interesting to hear.

AWSOME!!!!!!! uuly i do not like bands straight away but this band sounds great!, It is like arctic monkeys cross with franz ferdinand cross with th killers, great stuff

I have to agree with you, I love the arctic monkeys basslines, and the bassist. Though they're on their second now. They're also a band that i can play the bass line, and people actually know the song. He probably is one of the best.

though listening to this Departure, I may well be swayed.
