The Turbosound iQ series of powered speakers are no joke. Very good stuff in that price range. I just used those JBL Eons this past weekend, a pair mounted on tripods to handle vocals and direct bass for a small, but rockin', pub gig. They did the job no sweat. FWIW I commonly use a pair of passive 10" coaxial wedges for my full range bass rig in small venues, and they can handle a lot of power as long as you don't try to throttle them with sub frequencies (IOW, roll them off). Provided you're happy to have clarity and volume, 10" speakers can be just fine, depending on what you get. Frequency response below 100hz will likely be minimal, but will vary, again, depending on what speaker system you get.
