I think it’s more that it’s become so mainstream that hardly anybody feels the need to mention their bass is a fiver anymore.
It certainly doesn’t make people sit up and take notice when you take one out of its case these days. It’s just another bass.
Either way they seem to have become as everyday as four string basses, based on what I see people playing. I doubt they're on their way out.
