Are all ibanez sr800 from the 90's have really low volume?

As a new player I thought to myself.. funny the volume of the rumble 30 and the vox amplug are not high enough( and I dont like noise! Untill I got my Jazz special back and its 5 time louder than the ibanez. And the fender is passive.
So .. whats wrong?
Its not a battery issue

Possibly pickup height? How far are the strings away from the top of the pickups?

If they're similar distance like the Jazz, then it could be the preamp, pots or jack. Hard to diagnose over the internet in that case.

It should be louder than a Jazz, they tend to have relatively low output pickups.

If your SR800 is from the mid 90's with AFR pickups and 3 band preamp with mid sweep then nothing is wrong here. They were pretty low output basses. Set the pickups as high as possible.
the pickups are LoZ pickups, but the bass is from 92, so we came to conclusion (in another thread, that the 1st owner probably switched them with the EMG

Well, I currently have one from '91 and it's awfully LOUD. Even a bit hotter then EMG set that I've tried as upgrade (switched back to stock LO-z pickups with EMG bts pre)
It's totally different from later ones in output and voicing.
If the battery is fresh (try a new one to be sure) then seems like your preamp or pots went bad.

I have tried!, its not the battery, but can you tell me where the preamp is located? The other day someone saw a pic of my bass and said what he liked about it was the fact that it doesnt have a build in preamp....

Ok. Is it the black box inside the electronics? How do I check if the preamp is good or not? The volume knob doesnt have a plastic cover, so I can see it spins ok

Please attach the picture of the preamp compartment
Sorry for the delay:

I can say now the answer is: No, because I got another 92' sr800, and its alive and kicking!!
