Are Lane Poor pickups worth it?

I once played a Fodera (like Victor Wootens) that had these and it was the cleanest bass tone i've ever heard. Ever since, I've been doing ebay searches and these pop up hardly ever. Tell me if its worth it to bite the bullet-
I've been a good boy this year!

Lane Poor 1998 PJ Bass Pickups With Preamp *Super Rare Fodera Modulus Alembic* | eBay

Hello. If 1. the Lane Poor sound is the sound you want, and 2. you are wiling to risk the chance of any of these examples failing, then 3. it could be worth it for you.

However if "the cleanest bass tone" is your specific objective, then it may be that you can achieve that "clean[ness]" for much less money and risk by trying current production pickups first. Wilde, Delano P and Delano J, JBE P and JBE J, Villex, and Lace P and Lace J, for example.

I paid $600 for these Lane Poor 5 string Jazz Bass set that were new in the box from the back of a closet of a good friend in the Bass retail business. It would be difficult for me to do it again with unknowns under other circumstances.

The pickups sounded very good with an East U-Retro. But, $600 good, not so sure. There are many more quality offerings today that were not around when Lane Poor was doing his thing with unobtainium.

Broken mounting ears scares me a bit on that set. The pickups are potted in the cases so it's not like you can just pop the cases off and replace them. Once they're broke they're broke. I don't know if I could bring myself to pay $500 for any pickups anyways, but I'm a cheapskate for the most part. And I guess ultimately you have to decide if they're worth it to you.

When I think "Victor Wooten's tone" I think plain old boring mainstream EMG PJ...
