Are " MONSTER " Cables Worth the price ? and Wath Length ?

I like my monster cables. Not for tone difference but for reassurance. I've only had one go bad (solder came loose) and I took it straight to GC and they even gave me a "nicer" monster cable because they didn't have my exact Monster Bass cable in stock. I also like the Live Wire Elites for the same reason...lifetime warranty!

This is my thought process. I bought the cheapest 20' Monster cable for $24.99, this was maybe 3 whole bucks more than the other cables and I've already taken advantage of the lifetime replacement twice in the six years since I bought the first one. Once it wasn't even the cable, it turned out to be a short in my input jack, but GC just gave me a new one without even asking why.

i say the monster cables are definitely better than most! worth the added expense?, thats up for endless debate. i buy them when i see a great deal. the theory behind signal transfer vs. signal loss over distance is valid and should be considered. if you want longer cables go "quality", (ie. monster),... most ppl don't hear a difference, but my home and mobile audio systems definitely have more presence and dynamics after swapping standard cable out for monster. keep in mind there are many high quality cable sets on the market, gl.

I agree with pacojas. Cables will surely make a difference but people need to realize where monster sits in the cable world. Ive been working in the home audio industry for many years and there are a ton of other companies out there that make monster look like garbage. Also for what its worth monster pays more for the stupid packaging than they do for your actual cable. Ive heard good things about the Mogami cables and Ive also noticed that Analysis Plus has started making instrument cables.

monster cables are great cables.. but i'd rather go for mogami than monster. i like mogamis better but they both have the whole lifetime warranty thing and they're both good quality. i just don't like the rumors i hear about monsters and their whole lawsuit bullying thing.

oh plus, i mean it's kind of subtle so i don't really hear the difference but i heard mogamis color the tone of your instrument less than monster cables. so mogamis would be sending your instrument tone through more "clearly" than monsters i guess. which would actually be a good/bad thing depending on yourself.. i'd rather do all my tone shaping and coloring through my instrument.. i wouldnt want the cable to become a factor. it gets too complicated then hahaha.

but some people i know like the monster bass cables because of the way the cable affects the tone of their bass. i don't like it.

It's actually true. I remember maybe a year and a half ago seeing it on the news: they were suing a local (Tampa) company that was called "Monster Bar" or something similar for the name "Monster".

I Prefer mogami gold cables over monster and planet waves. The planet waves and monster cables pick up way more buzz from the pickups with my jazz bass then the mogami cable does. And I only paid 15 dollars for my mogami gold 18' cable. Guitar center didnt have the planet waves cable in stock when my planet waves cable decided to get all crackly. so they gave me 40 dollars credit towards a new cable.

I broke down and bought one of the Klotz cables from Sadowsky (90$) a few years ago. I really don't notice a huge tonal difference My Sadowskys have ALWAYS sounded great. Kjung suggested them because he liked them as much as some 300$ plus cables he had tried. But they seem to twist a lot less (my big beef with planet waves) and I've had no issues with reliability. The best warranty is the one you don't have to use.

The same advice applies to bass cables & spark plug wires. Thicker is better than thinner, Shorter is better than longer. A thin wire should be shorter, a thick wire can be longer.

I use the same wires for my bass & my speakers. The longest I have is 20 feet (6 meters) It's long enough to do my own sound check in a small room. I generally go with a 10 foot (3 meter) wire.

BTW, I find a right angle jack at the amp puts less stress on the input jack.

FWIW, I loop the wire through my strap so I can't do damage or pull it out of the bass by stepping on the wire while I'm moving or stand up.
