Eyeing up one of their strobe tuners and just wondering about accuracy, ease of use, and value for the extra cost. Thanks!!
I can't speak to modern peterson strobes (I had a peterson 450 WAY back when) but I can say that the peterson istrobesoft app for the iphone is accurate, easy to use and an every bit worth the minimal cost. cheers
I play fretless, and use a tuner to monitor my stopping points on notes. I'm hoping that this will be more visible and accurate.
Which strobe tuner from Peterson are you looking at? If it is a pedal one, I actually preferred the Turbo Tuners (ST-300) to the Peterson (Classic) that I owned (mostly due to visibility). Noting that both are better than most other tuning pedals. If you are referring to one of the large strobe tuner units, then I have never used one, but know they are insanely accurate.
Depends.. Sometimes they're too accurate to be quick enough on stage. They're great for recording and/or adjusting the bass, but for recording I also like to use the tuners built in DAWs.
Second the iPhone app. Ten bucks will get you into the world of strobe tuners. Be prepared to live with ‘close enough’.
I like the StroboClip HD and I like the iStroboSoft app a lot. For pedals, I like the Sonic Research Turbo Tuners.
I have and love my Sonic Research strobe tuner ST-300 I also use this when practicing on my fretless It helps a lot Duke
I love my StroboStomp. Many people love those as well as the Sonic Research tuners. In any case, yes, I believe they are worth the extra cost - they really aren't that much more expensive than other pedal tuners, in the grand scheme of things.
To me, strobe tuners are definitely worth it. Way easier to use. For the same price, id probably look at Turbo Tuners brand over the Peterson brand. I think they're rated to be slightly more accurate.
I own two, a VSII and StroboStomp. I did my last set-up with the built-in on my Tech 21 Bass Fly Rig. The VSII is at our rehearsal space, the Strobo is stashed in my file cabinet. One of the more highly-regarded TBers ditched his Petersons and is using the app on his phone. Riis
