Are these true flats or half flats?

Wow I wanna try DR Legends right now. I think I might have played them once in a store before I really even knew what flats were.

They look like they would string with much higher tension than ribbon wound flats.

The Legends are ribbonwound flats. They're just so thoroughly polished that the ribbon almost disappears. My experence with the short-scale Rotosound Jazz Bass flatwound low E (very much unlike its long-scale counterpart) is also that of almost one continuous metal tube, in look and feel.

including contributions by the present OP, I'd still think these are Magmas.

I wasn't trying to dispute the fact they're Magmas. It was just an observation they share similar features with the Ernie Ball, including the silk color and ball ends.

Baby blue silk, but look a bit different/rough on silk wrap compare to 2810 especially the silk on ball end side.

Wow I didn’t know DR legends were that smooth.

The photo is deceptive. Yeah, they’re smooth but they have a slight tackiness. My plucking fingers feel a slight drag across them. But, they do nicely on my Jazz.

So, according to this the only way to tell if a strings is a halfround is checking the inner side of the outer flat wrap... I thought depending on how much rough or spaces between the wraps on the outside the more tend to sound like rounds..

Gotta check with manufacturer via email, telephone or website to know for sure on design construction. Gotta listen to videos and then ultimately, spend some cash for the tone/sustain on your own instruments and amp/cabs. External aesthetics is not an indicator of what they sound or feel like.

The short scale DR Legends on my Kramer Duke are pretty tightly wound, but... they don't look like that. Closest I can come to that, is the Galli Jazz Flats on my EBMM 4HH Stingray Special...
