Arthritis comes at a bad time

I’m 67 years old. I’ve been rehearsing
weekly with 5 other members of the band for the last 4 years. Never had more comfort with the fretboard or intuitive playing than I have now.
I’m really grooving on my abilities now
except for one thing. Arthritis. It wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t that it
affects my index finger of my dominant hand.

Already seen orthopedic MD and had it injected. Keep it in a splint at night.
Tried oral anti inflammatory meds.
Any suggestions?

Curcumin is a natural anti-inflammatory that works for me. I have pretty chronic shoulder and elbow pain and was taking ibuprofen by the handful (2400 mg daily)... when the ibuprofen became less effective, (and it was pushed as a long-term plan), a new doctor suggested Curcumin. It was pretty effective from the start, most probably because it was different than the ibuprofen I had been bingeing! Took a bit to get the dosage right, but it help keep the pain in check.

Good luck with your journey!

Thanks Robert
I’ll give it a try.
Hoping the journey won’t end here.

I am 49 and I have RA that started to act up when I was 23.
I take glucosamine. I exercise a lot and have eliminated sugar, dairy, and alcohol from my diet and try to avoid nightshade vegetables. I don't remember when I had my last flare up. maybe a little achy here and there but very manageable even without any anti-inflammatory.
I like to lift weights. Stronger muscles take a lot of pressure off my joints. And i love cycling. There are days a wake up with sore knees and I get on my bike and in just about half a mile they start to feel better. By the time I get back home I don't even remember that they were hurting in the first place! lol
Good luck. I hope you find something that works for you.

Avoid sugar and change your diet to foods that do not give you inflammation. You are what you eat.
Look into the Whole 30 diet for trying to figure out what foods affect you. It worked for me.

This is paramount as we age. I know that I've made dietary changes and started exercising and it makes a world of difference. About three years ago I all but gave up because my knees were so bad I couldn't walk up the stairs an my shoulders so sore I couldn't lift my arms but with a lifestyle change I feel twenty years younger.

My diet can use improvement.
As of late I’m focusing on the Mediterranean diet but love tomatoes
and eggplant so I should at least get in the habit of peeing the skin.
I need to begin some glucosamine as you suggested and get back to some resistance exercises in the gym.
I too believe exercise and diet can go a long way in helping with my condition.

My wife had a severe health crisis last year and we had to change the way we eat completely. We do no do much processed items at all. No bread, rice or pasta. We read all ingredients before we buy. No corn syrup, etc. We make many of our own salad dressings, ketchup and bbq sauces. It’s a lot of work. But worth it and I can feel a big difference. I can really tell this past week because I’ve ate a bunch of junk and the inflammation is bad.

Yes, curcumin may be supportive. One thing to note is that there are challenges with absorption, and forms that are hydro-soluble absorb better.

Thanks for your information. Upon my research I found : Curcumin has been demonstrated to be safe in six human trials and has demonstrated anti-inflammatory activity. It may exert its anti-inflammatory activity by inhibition of a number of different molecules that play a role in inflammation.
