As green as they come

Brand new to bass but loving it. I sit with some friends in a beginners group for old time and blue grass. I actually play cajun and irish accordion but there is no room for that in those circles so they let me pluck a few notes on an old bass. I know there is so much more to it than what I will ever be able to master at my age (53) but I would love to be able to sit in and contribute. Right now, friends will call out the chords and I can follow on some basic tunes. Would love to expand my repertoire. So, here I am, hoping to learn more from all of you. From what I have read, it is a helpful, encouraging community and I am glad to be here. First order of business is to find a teacher in the Delaware Valley/South Jersey/Philadelphia area.
