I have been checking out amps lately and have tried Eden, Markbass, SWR, Ampeg, Gk, and I'll tell ya what. I haven't found anything as nice sounding as My ABM500. Such a great lively tone. I think it does a way better job of recreating the sound of my bass than any of these "transparent" amps.

Big +1

With my ABM500, my bass sounds like....a bass. I tried very hard to like transparent amps and I finally found myself to like amps that have some character.

I'm thinking of converting to Ashdown from Gallien Krueger... the GK 2001RB's basic tone doesn't really suit my vintage-leaning sensibilities, and an ABM seems like it would do a good job of warming up my tone. I've played them a little bit, and 2 of my friends just switched over as well (one from SWR and the other from an Orange thunderverb... that's saying something!) and they both sound fantastic onstage.

The only thing holding me back at this point is the difficulty in pairing cabs... I wish the ABM 500 or 900 would go down to 2 ohms so i could use 2 4 ohm cabinets as part of a modular setup, or if you could at least bridge the 900's two power amps so i could get by using 2 8 ohm cabs... as it is, the configurations available make it tricky to create a really versatile cab arrangement. I'm sure I'll figure something out in the near future though...

OK before I start I will point out that whilst yes I am an Ashdown endorsee I have always loved the equipment that they use and had been using it for a while efore being endorsed by them.

Now with that out of the way...

I have been using an ABM 300w combo for the last 6 years which I loved!!

That is now in the studio and live I am now using and ABM 500 RC EVO II Head, ABM 2x10 Cabinet and ABM 1x15 Cabinet. I have also just started using a couple of their pedals (Overdrive and Dual band Compressor) which seem to be up to the job and worth checking out...although I don't think you can really beat a Boss.

My one negative comment about them is that if you are looking for an Ashdown amp/rig avoid the Classic range as it is just TOO expensive for what it is. There just isn't enough of a difference to justify the price difference.

As for an Ashdown club let me know what you find!!!

it's changed a little since that pic... the only difference is the RBI has been replaced by a rack spacer with stickers of hawt gurlz all over it. i use the RBI more for recording. i love the ABM500 RC for live. so punchy and warm! :bassist:

hey, is that an ampeg 810 or 610 you are using? I'm ABM 500 user (Love it) and I have the Ashdown 410, but I'm looking into getting an 810 or 610 for bigger rooms. I've always liked the 810, but I never had much of an opportunity to try that head out through the ampeg cabs. Any advice, 810 or 610?

Here's a question for anybody out there. I'm playing a 5string Reverend, the B string practically buries the needle on the VU needle. The E and A are just about right. The D and G need to be boosted. I've tried raising the pickups on that end of the bass. It helped a little, but not much. Would their compressor help me out?
