Ashdown EB 180 combo

I've been looking for an affordable, quality amp lately, and I have heard good things about the Ashdown EB 12-180 combo.

How is this line of Ashdowns in terms of tone? I play mostly art rock with classic rock, electronic and jazz, and I'm interested as to what range of tonality is available with this amp.

What are the flaws in this amp for those who own or have tried it?
I've heard Ashdowns have a smooth, warm tone, yet does the 12-180 have the punch and midrange that a player like myself likes?

I'm looking for opinions on the EB 12-180, it's reliability and tone.
If there are any amps that are in the same price range with power enough for practice & small gigs that can be recommended as better than this one, I'd like to know.

I got one as a small amp for rehearsals.

It's a pretty good amp with versatile tones. You can't get a very bright tone because there's no horn, but it's very good for what I use it for. It's a lot louder than you would expect and it can handle a B string well.

Another note is that the pictures on most of the online stores don't show the current amp. The newer ones have an analog VU meter (not a LED based one), different knobs (all are big instead of big/small) and the grill and logo plate are much nicer!

Wish it had headphone output and a mute button.

Plus I got it on one of those stupid deals on MF, so for $229 and free shipping, this little amp is hard to beat.

Hmmmm.. no tweeter, headphone output and mute.

I can live without the last two, but the lack of tweeter makes me rethink a bit

More opinions would be appreciated, including amps in this $ range that might be better.

update:
I have been using this amp for a few weeks for practice and rehearsal. Tone and power are ok for those needs and the lack of tweeter is really no big deal, especially if you add external processing (I use a magicstomp since the bright button or treble pot don't do a lot for highs, really).

The real problem is that it started doing some crackling noises at rehearsal last night. This is unacceptable.

Although it bears the ashdown logo, this is made in china and is of less quality than the MAG or EVO amps.

I just got an RA from MF and I'm going to return it. Probably will get a Line6 Studio110 or something ...I really need lightweight for rehearsals!

Well then, this isn't good!

Thanks for the update, not many people actually look back at the threads they've posted in.

I can never seem to decide on one amp in the $300 range, which is my budget.

I'm thinking about a Carvin BR12, so I'll make another thread and try not to annoy everyone.
