Ashdown Electric Blue Question

I'm new to bass (playing guitar since '82 and now making the switch to bass) My first bass should be arriving on Friday. It's a Squier VM Precision Tele Bass. Now for an amp, I have been doing a lot of reading and tried quite a few amps but I am intrigued by the Ashdown EB 15-180 EVO II Combo. Does anyone have any experience with this amp? Specifically, how does it sound and how well is it made. Weight is not a factor for me as I am a big strong dude but I will want to be able to practice with it as well as play small gigs. And I'm curious about how it would "match up" with the Tele Bass..

I havent actually used any ashdown gear but i have heard many good things about them...... The electric blue included. Characteristic of ashdown it seems to hold itd tone well, esp at high volumes and comes at fantastic value for money. It would be a brillina practice amp in my opinion.

For Gigging however..... thats a different story. What kind of band are you in, how many ppl and what do they play, where do you anticipate playing?

Currently, I'm just going to be accompanying an acoustic guitar and perhaps a Tele. Friend of mine does a solo gig and he wants me to sit in on bass with him so no drums to compete with.

Well if thats all your going to be doing then you should be ok........ The amp is big enough to take on small gigs and compete with that no problem and anything particularly big should have a P.A nyway...

I would suggest tho that even after you get this amp, keep putting away money for a new amp, especially if you plan on joining a 4 piece/5piece band with drums. Cos that ashdown wont cut it in those situations.....

the amp seems perfect for your needs, i have the 12" version and it does me for practice, its sitting next to me at the moment, and it more than holds its own at small gigs, even at slightly larger ones with an extension cab (i use it with a hartke 4x10 sometimes) people always complement the sound, a bassist friend of mines amp blew up recently and he used mine with a jazz bass and was blown away by it. it really has been one of the best bass buys ive made. it will sound great with the telebass. i cant reccomend it enough, and you cant get much better bang for buck ratio and it has some nice extras like the decent eq, compressor, sub harmonic generator and cool vu meter, and the price is right too.

Yes, I imagine I would need to move a lot more air in a 5 piece rock band but for now, this will suit my needs. Thanks for the advice.

True, the feature set is pretty amazing for the price. Do you know if you can add an extension cab to the EB series combos? That might be worth looking at if I needed more power.

I have a more expensive Ashdown rig, I can can vouch for the fact that it is superb. I have played the electric blue amps and they still seem very good although not in the same range as the more expensive amplifiers, but I think for somebody starting out they would be perfect.

Interesting. Would you say that the Ashdown and Orange amps have a "British" sound? How do they differ from, say, Ampeg or Peavey, for example?
