I bought the Mag 300 III amp head last year. Bought it new at a very good clearance price. I used it mostly for practice with a single 8 ohm, GB NeoX 112T or a modded, Eden 4 ohm, D210T cab for band practices. I thought that at only like, 307 watts @ 4ohms, it would not stand up to most my loud blues gigs. I get no PA support in a few blues bands so I bring a GB Streamliner 900 or Shuttle 9.2 with a 4ohm, 212 cab or a 4ohm, TB153 cab for optimal power.
But I used the Mag 300 around the house or for practice with those cabs I mentioned above. I bought a EVO 500 RCII head few years ago and I loved the tone of it. Used it in a 70's classic rock band. About 13 months after, it totally shut down on me. Took them 10 months to call to say it was repaired, by then I'd moved on to Genz Benz amps. But I really liked the tone of that first Ashdown amp I owned. Still abit leary of the name, I bought this Mag 300 for small gigs and knew I had plenty of backup amps, so why not. Just started with a new variety band that gives me full PA support. So gona take the MAG 300 head and maybe the Eden D210T cab for some gigs in Aug to give her a go and see how it works out.
If you like the Ashdown tone, I feel most of their amps have that signature tone. Just a matter of how many watts you need. My MAG head has been sitting unused since last spring since no practice sessions or small gigs have come up. But sure hope it sounds like I recall at these next few gigs. It's a much heavier amp than my other 4-5 mini-micro amps. But with PA support now, looking forward to using it again.
BTW, at those rehearsals,
w/loud@zz drummer, the MAG 300 + NeoX 112T still worked well even with my 5 string passive jazz bass. Good luck, mate, give it a try, hope it works for you. And me, again. Peace, e.
