Ashdown MiBass...

A lot of people have been disappointed by their previous small heads (especially that first, underpowered "Superfly" with the saveable presets). I've read about some questionable design choices, and so-so build quality on the Little Giants.
So I think there's some wariness about new Ashdowns, at least until reviews are in.

Looks interesting, have been gigging my superfly head and 4x8 matching cab for over 3 years now and have had tons of compliments regarding my tone.. Played straight up with a Korean made fender jazz 24. Had no problems with that so this could be worth a look as a back up, or maybe I just need to be lucky enough to find another good Q superfly...

One thing I've noticed which really bugs me is that every article I've seen about the MiBass mentions the "7 band semi-parametric EQ" when a brief glimpse at any of the front panel pictures clearly shows that it's a 4-band EQ with 3 parametric frequency controls. Why does no-one seem able to think for themselves?

If you looked at the picture fore more than a couple of seconds (or buy a better monitor), you'd see that isn't the case-- the knobs have frequency ranges printed below them with the letters "FREQ" printed above them. It looks to me like the sliders are for boost/cut and the knobs are for sweep.

If so, that's a pretty interesting and intuitive configuration!

The picture in the bassplayer.com page is more clear and you are indeed correct about the printings. But there are 4 sliders and only 3 of them seem to be semi-parametric in that case.

Hi Sten,

It doesn't look to me like the "sweep" knobs directly relate to the "boost/cut" sliders, but rather bridge the gap between the sliders.

I can't quite read the type under the knobs very clearly, but the first "sweep" knob looks like it may sweep between frequencies usually assigned to Bass and frequencies typically assigned to Lo Mid.

But, again, I can't quite tell.

Nevertheless, it's still a pretty unconventional solution, which Ashdown seems to have a knack for...

The EQ button purely switches the EQ in or out... When the EQ is switched out, that section is bypassed completely,
which means the signal goes from the DEEP/ SHAPE circuitry to the Effects circuitry and on to the power amp bypassing the EQ section..

Thanks Jauqo, as endorsee, will you get able to play one one a near futur before it goes one sale (august)?
Class D amp are said to be weaker than the wattages announced.

I'm considering running a new ashdown VS 2x12 with 220W Mi bass for rehearsal, I'm afraid it'll not be powerful enough to compete with a epileptic drummer and 100w guitar tube-head.

For live performance, I wanted to play 2 MiBass 220 + 2 2x12 VS, one run clean and one run with effect (mostly overdrive).

If the 220w isn't powerful enough I'll have the 500 but paying two of them will be too expensive. They run the same power @ 4 or 8 ohms.

The GK MB heads run half power @ 8 ohms, this dual setup will be less affordable and will lack of power with one single head or one signle cab.

I put much expectation in these Mibass !! ASHDOWN hear me !!!
