Ashdown Retroglide 800 Bass Amp

Ashdown FB page announced the shipping of the amps to the dealer network. I guessing in a couple of weeks we will be able to have hands on demos.

Is Mark King back with Ashdown then? I don't see his name mentioned anywhere, but when Ashdown in particular uses the name "Retroglide," it implies his involvement.

And the graphic EQ approach was always his thing; they put it in his MK-500 amp about 10 years ago too.

Odd that it's under the "Valve" section, as it clearly is a Class D. Not even a 12ax7 in the preamp section, sheesh!
Personally, I couldn't live with just a graphic EQ.

I'm approaching this purchase with an open mind. To see what this amp can do. Hopefully it will live up to it claims.

I've been using a trace elliot 400SM head for years...a graphic EQ is slower to use but far more surgical. You can literally target venue booms and voids with single sliders.
With Trace and Ashdown, the send and return loops are post EQ. So you have a choice of placing a pedal board in front of the EQ or after the EQ.
It's nice if you have a three band EQ early in your chain...to dial in global changes through the pedal board and then dial in final tweeks and venue tweeks in the graphic on the end of the chain. Or put the effect chain in the send and return loop, with a three band EQ pedal on the end of the chain to dial in the end of line global changes just before it hits the DI / Power section.

Yes, I've had my eye on this amp since announcement. 800w, micro amp size and weight....with a 12 band graphic, DI, Send /return...Yes sir!

Push up the 100Hz slider for all the warmth you'll ever need. SS is more than capable of delivering warmth and tone to equal levels of tubes.
If it's break up you desire...that's always best served with something more dedicated like and OCD, Wampler euphoria or Barbershop (for that on the edge of breakup grit).

I recently started using a Zoom B3 for effects and tone shaping, thus bypassing my rackmounted preamp. I briefly considered replacing the pre with a graphic EQ to have post DI means for tweaking my on stage sound, when I came across this micro.

Seems just the ticket! Anyone played one already? Ashdown hasn't got the best track record when it comes to class D (Little Giant, miBass,...)

I'm the KORG Bass Product Specialist. I got the 1st one of the Ashdown Retroglide 800. It really is the coolest and one of the best amps I have ever used. Sometimes I wish it had been pre-EQ because of the ability to tailor, so in the end I used to run the effects up front, then the DI pre-EQ was post-FX, and then it was fair game to tweak the EQ for stage audibility without it bothering FOH.

I've run a graphic EQ in the loop before, if that is what you mean. One stomp box I tried emitted squealing noises, so probably wasn't capable of handling line-level, so beware.

I heard of issues with the Little Giant (there was one for sale round here for cheap a couple of weeks ago) but hadn't heard anything negative about the miBass but I haven't really looked.
