Ashdown RM-C115T-500-EVO

Hi everyone. This is my first post on TalkBass.

I currently have a [Invalid or Expired Link Removed], which was my first, and so far, only bass cab.

I don't gig that much, but the last couple of gigs have been outside, and the BG250 just doesn't carry enough punch. I was thinking of making a DIY cab, to save money, but have been advised that it is a bad idea, so I have been keeping my eye open for something to trade-up to.

Anyway, I have found a 1 year old Ashdown RM-C115-500-Evo which I think I can get a pretty good deal on.

I am assuming that my current BG250 has a 4 ohm speaker, and as such is delivering 250 W of power. However, the Ashdown has an 8 ohm speaker, and is therefore outputting 250W to the cab (since it drives 500 W at 4 ohm). So technically it won't be any louder than the TC. However, it will give me more scope for the future if (WHEN) I add another 8 ohm cab.

Would you all consider that changing from the TC Electronics to the Ashdown would be a game changer? On the face of it, it seems like a big step up, and gives the scope for an additional cab in the future (via the second amp output). Should I go for it (subject to liking the tone, and it being in good nick)?

The Ashdown combo should actually be a little louder as the 15 inch speaker should be able to produce more sound than the 112, of course depending on how efficient the speaker is. And since it does have an extension speaker out jack, that would allow you to run all 500 watts into 2 115 cabs which will really make it loud.

I own the Rootmaster 500 EVO head and can attest to that head being one loud sucker. I like both TC Electronic and Ashdown and if all you are worried about is loud, then the Ashdown combo is the way to go. However the Ashdown is not going to sound like the TC so that is another thing to consider.

Just to check - you aren't saying that there is anything wrong with the Ashdown sound, just that it is different and I should be sure I like that particular sound before I buy?

Ashdown is one of this brands that has a specific sound. It's not good or bad, it's just different. As far as I know, the TC Electronics tries to simulate an Ampeg. I play through an Ashdown and I love it. But it's a matter of taste. Nothing bad

Correct. Nothing wrong at all with the Ashdown tone, just letting you know it is a bit different.

To my ears the TC BH heads are smoother with some tube like breakup and feel while the Ashdown is more aggressive and SS like gainy (I know that's not a real word).

But the Ashdown can get somewhat close with use of the compressor and drive. The cool thing about the Ashdown is that it can get close to the TC and also very close to a GK with very little EQ adjustments. Pretty versatile EQ.

Hi Guys, I am considering to buy this combo. I play in a four piece funk rock band (maybe add its cab the RM 115 later to get more volume) Is it loud enough for gigs and rehearsal on its own?

What is the overall impression, does it worth its price?
