Ashdown set up

Hey, looking to get a decent bass amp as i've jst been playing through my practice amp for a good bit now.
I've read a lot of good things about the Ashdown MAG300 head and the 410 cabinet, basically i wanna know if it's any good.
They have the cabinet in the shop here n they said they'd pricematch (or near enough) thomann.de, the only thing is that when i looked in the shop it was the 300 head, not the 300H. So i looked on the shop's site and listed at the same price was the 300H.
Well that's kinda two questions, basically is that a good set up (not just for the money, but sound also) and what should i do about the head if i'm going for it?

300 head is same thing "h" stands for head.

Great head, i'm running it through a Yorkville 15" cab. You won't be dissapointed very warm smooth sound.

I use an Ashdown MAG C410T-300 Combo Bass Amp- basically same setup as you state...

The Mag 300 is a nice little amp, and I like the sub harmonic generator. If you really want to play loud (as though you are playing w/ guitars that are cranked) you'll have to push the amp some, but it sounds pretty good at higher volumes. This amp is well suited for beginners and amateurs, imho

You're surprisingly similar to me - I've read many good reviews of the Ashdown MAG300H head, and the MAG410t cab, and I was just about to buy them off Thomann.de also.

However... I was sorely disappointed when I had a go in the shop. The 4x10 lacked so much deep punch that I'd read about, and I don't want to pay another £150 for the 1x15 extension cab.

Due to that, I'm now going for the Warwick ProFet 3.2 head, and I haven't yet decided on the cab. I think I'll take it with me to the music shops around here, and try out as many 4x10 cabs as I can.

Anyway, I just felt like letting you know about my disappointment.

Hmm thats the first bad thing i've heard lol.
N peaveyuser, i saw one called 300 n it didnt have the vents, where i've seen it called 300H it had vents (on the front).
I'm gonna go in possibly tomorrow and try it out, what should i expect?

oh also FYI you'll only be running about 150watts (thanks Ashdown for not giving the 8 ohm figure) as the 410 runs at 8 ohms. If you want the full 300 watts you'll either have to get another 8 ohm cab or a single 4 ohm cab.

Yea i read that in a few places, would the single 4 ohm cab give the 300W aswell? Cheers for the heads up (Y)

yup a single 4 ohm will allow you to run the full 300w, just make sure the cab can handle it and is rated at 300w or more. For the price of the Ashdown 410 you can prolly find something that will run a 4 ohms, maybe used.

Wait do you mean one 4 ohm instead of the two 8 ohms?

well basically if you run two 8 ohm cabs it equals 4 ohms. Or you could get 1 4 ohm cab. You cannot pair two 4 ohms as it's bad for the amp, or a 4ohm and 8ohm. You can though run one 4 0hm cab

I recently bought the MAG 300 head and 410 cab, and i love it no disappointment or Sadness, such a great deal i got for aswell

PS it runs at 175W with 1 8 ohm cab witch is plenty loud for me, I will get another cab when i save some more money

sick I heard that before but everything i have recently read says 150watts. Where did you get the 8 ohm figure?

I can give a testimony to the MAG 300 COMBO. I love the combo, so I would assume that the head with a good cabinet would sound just as good if not better. Man, I love the combo. It really sounds spectacular. Good Luck

I've run the MAG-300H with an Avatar 210 and 112 (4 ohm load combined). You really want the 4 ohm load to take advantage of the power of this thing. I've gigged with it for two years doing a six month stretch of weekly gigs and twice a month before and since...weekly practice too. Plenty of power and none of the reliability issues some have had...yet (fingers crossed, knock on wood, cross myself, etc). At the $300 I paid for it, it's already paid for itself. One thing to note...if you get the version without the side vents, you can remove it from the case and rackmount it if you want. The vented model, which I have, is too wide. I would've put it in a rack if I could. Good Luck!!!

In the shop its the version without the vents, what are the advantages to rackmounting arjosy?

If your going to use more than a head and cab I guess if could be useful (power amp, pre amp, tuner, multi effects, mixer etc...). If your just using a head with out all that stuff then you should be fine and also just save your back and don't rack it.
