Ashdown Speakers

I have a mag300 and would definitely recommend more than 2X10. So far, I am still unconvinced the 2X10 can hadle all that the amp puts out.

The 2x10 I have is rated at 700watts 4 ohms. I am thinking about getting a 1X15 to compliment it.

I even read a review that said the cab was good but not enough for the combo.

Might be worth a double check....but as far as I know the MAG 300 is 307 watts at 4 ohms! That may be the peak power rating you've picked up on!

So, without an extension cab, you're probably only getting about 200 watts! :)

I have a 4x10 and it won't handle all that this amp can put out. I think Ashdown are conservative when they talk of 307 watts (185 I think on my original UK build one). I've another Emenence 15" 400 watt (Delta I think) that will be built into a matching cabinet - you know carpet cloth, handles etc - and that will fix it I'm sure. From the weight in the Emenence I'd think a set of 4 10's that would handle all the power would make the original cab pretty heavy. Anyway two cabs are easier to move around than one big one - anyone like to comment on those 8x10 coffins that I've seen around. Even if they're on wheels you'd need a big vehicle to load them up. I even saw an 8x 12s in the mid 60's!!

I'm sorry if I didn't make myself clear. I am running a head (307w @ 4ohms) into a 2X10 cabinet that is supposed to be rated at 700watts. Its a 4 ohm cabinet.

sorry - I think I just misunderstood!

OK, so the Ashdown is putting all 307 watts into a cabinet that can take 700 watts. Should be OK....but it may depend on speaker efficiency!

As your cab is 4 ohms, I woldn't recommened rushing out and getting another cab to add to your rig. If you did you'd lower the impedance and risk damaging your amp - the Ashdown amps are rated at 4 ohms for max power. If you added an 8 ohm cab, your impedance would be 2.67 ohms, if you added a 4 ohm cab the total the amp would see would be 2 ohms - which would put the head at risk of damage!

I wasnt intending to run down Ashdown, but there is a huge difference in the price of Mag series gear to the ABM series. The company is now owned by Behringer and alot is made in china so we are led to believe so work the rest out for yourselves. No such thing as a free lunch in engineering so you get what you pay for, i cant imagine the speakers in the Mag series cabs are top of the range but i might be wrong, i think common sense and using yours ears to judge is the answer.Wasnt intending to attack Ashdown but there is a big difference in Mag series to the ABM /EVO series amps and cabs.

In my opinion the Mag series is the working mans Ashdown as the ABM / EVo stuff is the gear you see played by the pros, a bit like Fender and Squire !!
I have a MAG 300 bass combo 15.. it’s Loud . Powerful has that 15inch blueline speaker will rock the house . There ain’t damn thing wrong with that speaker
