Ashtray Bridge Cover on EBMM bass?

Has anyone ever modified their EBMM bass with an bridge cover similar to a P-bass?
I much prefer muting from above the strings rather than from below and think it would be possible to attach it using the two allen bolts already on the bridge.

I have tried something similar.
Looking for a more elegant solution really as I gig a lot and don't want to have to worry about it unsticking.

I've used a piece of common kitchen sponge and placed it under the strings but just after the saddles. Apart from the foam under the ash tray cover, this approach is the most common way to go about it. You don't want the sponge too thick or it will change the intonation. With the correct thickness you get the muted notes you want.

There is also an apparatus that you can attach to your bass. It offers the option of engaging and disengaging the mutes. Here's a link to that video...
