I would suggest getting some similar wood and practicing. If you can do a good job on the scrap then go ahead with the bass. I would use drills and very sharp chisel if i did it without a router. Be aware that you will have to guard against damaging the finish also. You may want to score around the outline with a razor knife.

This, but I'd add- get a sharp (new) drill bit for this job as opposed to the bits you have now that you may have already used a bunch of times and dulled the tips.

I know several people have recommend "routing" it yourself, but I really think thino
this is a job for a router and a template. Getting a clean sharp edge at the finish surface is pretty tricky if you haven't worked with chisels before. I say get a pro to do it. It would be heartbreaking to see you ruin a nice custom bass.

Been thinking to ask pro (might be pricey) but yeah let's see how much they ask for route the body. Otherwise i might ask my friend who knows woodworking to do it

What pickups is on that bass? tony franklin inspired switch huh?

I might be doing it at home with simple hnd drill as well as i think it's not rocket science to ask pro to do it.

I routed a hole for a new pot on my talman with a drill and a pocket knife. I would never suggest that to anyone. But, I got it it's under the pickguard anyway.

I don't have a finish on it, i removed that a good while ago now. Stained it, oiled it, gutted the actives, and added a pot for my bridge pickup. Also, wired it to a switch. Check it out.

See, nice and covered. The hole itself isn't really that bad, just not that good either. And it was a pain in the butt. But, live and learn.

Well after collect the tools needed and digging in the world of internet finally the bass is done and she's sing!

birdseye maple neck
Mahogany body
Maple neck
Gotoh tuners
Custom cnc bridge (made by local blacksmith to my spec)
Graptech ghost piezo (not being solder into its buffer still need advise to how to wire them properly with 3band preamp)
G&B preamp +4,5db (mike tobias spec for kingston super 5)
Dingwall fdv pu
Dingwall 2x rotary knob
sadowsky knob (mixed with allparts knob)
