Asked to take lower pay

Exactly two months after accepting the lower position, I was just informed I'm being put in charge of it...

...for an 11% raise. I think they made it 11% instead of 10% just so I wouldn't choke while laughing.




While I've always been a bit confused about the expression, I think my father's favorite cliche says it best.. "Even the sun shines on a dogs ass some days."

Congrats! I know I would still be laugh my butt off at the 11%. Honestly, I find it hard to believe the higher ups told you that with a straight face. There had to be a wink or three thrown in there somewhere !

an 11% raise still might not equal your original salary depending upon the values used. Did they specifically say 11% or did they say that they're reinstating your original salary +1%?

There may have been, but I thought it would be important to not react to it.

That, I did not think to ask. I've been running everything through the calculator (/"Complicater") and found out 11% can mean a lot of different things from different perspectives. Adding 11% on what I'm making now doesn't even get me back to where I used to be, unless I've crunched the numbers incorrectly. And specifically they said 3% plus another 8%, which I'll have to tackle with some scratch paper when I'm less tired.


I had a really awkward moment involving a bad handshake while I was trying to figure out if they were screwing with me on the 11%, so I'm going to give it a few days to ask.
