Atilla Balogh Odyssey Bass

Hi.

Has anyone in the wide world of TalkBass, come across one of these?

I now have two - this is the other one but I have never seen another. Anyone out there got one, same as this?

I'll sit and wait for hundreds of replies!

I have one, exact same color. Bought it new, probably around 1982 or 83. Broke the headstock 3 years ago, gave me an excuse to defret it. I also had it modified 12 years ago because I hated the sound of the original pick-ups. Was unusable in the studio because of the noise. Had 2 EMJ jazz installed with a active preamp. The luthier that did the job made a teardrop pickguard the hide the previous routing. I know it's a shame, but I didn't know better at the time.
I'll try to post pictures tomorrow. I might need help cause I've never done it before.

Hi. Thanks for the pics - an unusual mod.
Yours has different tuners to mine - it may be a later one, both mine have the same tuners.

Taken both of mine out in the last couple of weeks, one at a time.
Gig on Saturday - both going together!

Nice looking basses! Really digging the burst on them. 34" scale it looks like, right? Are these basses still made today? I like these "unknown custom builders." There seems to be so many of them in Europe. On that side of the pond they call themselves "Custom Builders" and charge a reasonable price for a good product. Here in the states they call themselves "Boutique builders" and charge an outrageous price for a good product.

I've seen/played an Atilla bass before. A friend owned one. It was maple, and had a natural, satin finish. It was a nice bass. Then he sold it to get a Kramer, the ones with the aluminum necks. And that thing sucked. He had to loosen the strings right off, after playing it, because it would pull a big bow in the neck by the next day.
That thing was not good. But it had a nice ebony fingerboard. So, it had that going for it. Gunga ga lunga.

this is an odyssey that was reconditioned by a former atilla employee (rick miruzzi) in sydney. have had it since about 1996.

Those look nice. Is the 3 switches grouped together series/parallel for each pup and a phase switch?

I've owned this bass for about 17 years and never found out who made it. I finally got a tip from a new friend who was sure it was an Atilla Balogh bass. Then I found this thread! Here are some pics!
