Double Bass Audio Technica Pro25ax

I haven't used the Pro25 or Pro25ax, but I have the ATM25, which was the original higher-quality version. I think it makes a good live microphone. Maybe not the best for recording, but for live use I get a good amount of gain before feedback, a nice punchy sound, and it has pretty strong output for a dynamic mic.

I haven't used it with an H-clamp, but I have used it on a stand in front of the bass (better sound) and wrapped in a towel under the tailpiece (better feedback rejection). In any case, I've had more success mixing it with a pickup than on its own.

As I have a flatback instrument the H-Clamp just doesn't work. It's much easier to use a AMT, ATM, DPA 4099, or the Ehrlund pickup. I found that it was really almost impossible to use a bow with the clamp.

Not to derail the thread, but could you elaborate on this? Was it a mounting or damping issue?

Your post may have saved me $120, just in time.

not so much interested in mounting process as how the microphone works, I understand the AMT and DBA are all great mics, but there is something about a dynamic microphone that is very appealing, as per other I find the H-Clamp has a lot of uses, I have used it for micing upright pianos, basses, cellos, guitars, comes in handy for different things, but I have the "fun" pack

Everyone's mileage may vary, of course, but I like the H-Clamp quite a bit. Disclosure, yes, we sell them - but I also own and use one myself (I also have the "multi/studio" model, and use it on a variety of instruments, including URB, guitars, etc.)

I'm interested in the flatback comment - what in particular made it not work with the flatback? Just curious, so I can make sure to have that information in the future for other customers.

For bass, placement of the clamp is quite flexible - did you try the upper bout? That would get it out of the way of bowing.
