Double Bass Auditioning when many people retire...

Well, wish me luck...I think I am going to audition for the Masters program in double bass at Boston University, and at age 56, I am older than any of the bass teachers there. Peer competition won't be an issue, for sure. I think I will prepare the Koussy, Bach 1 (Sterling), and excerpts.

Simandl Fan,

That's awesome. I'm around your age. I am also a full time double bass university student here in the LA area. Yes, most instructors and all my peers are younger than me, but I rarely even think about these things because we are there to learn to be better bassists, and, hopefully, more focused with age. I think we are examples of being at the beginning of a new trend of older students returning to colleges and universities for second careers and degrees.
