Double Bass auditions and instruments

hey i was wondering if gut strings would help me in my next audition i need to change my strings anyways
i have heard only good things about gut and i am using a pollmann
any suggestions on brands or just steel vs. strings
p.s. it is a youth orchestra i am auditioning for
Gut strings are a challenge. I would not recommend going into auditions with strings you're not familiar with. I suggest you use whatever arco string you're used to.

agreed on the classy SN
HA
But, on my last trip up to Shanks Strings In PA, this topic arose and it was agreed that the biases thrown around about New instruments compared to old are becoming less and less evident with advancing techniques and workmanship.
That isnt to say that playing on a Da Salo wouldnt be incredibly inspiring but, working with a new instrument can be just as worth while. The advantages and disadvantages of each balance out. Except, the modern instruments will eventually "grow out" of the so called disadvantages.
