Avatar B212 Mystery- which one did I buy?

Could use some help in solving a mystery. I just bought a used cab advertised as: a used Avatar NEO B212, ~2yrs old, 56 lbs, supposedly bought 2 months after the initial release date for the new model.

But it turns out the cab weighs 70+ lbs.:confused:

Does this means that this is NOT a NEO B212, or did Avatar make a generation of heavier (70 lbs) NEO cabs that was released ~2 yrs ago?

My conclusion is that I ended up inadvertently buying a older, non-NEO b212.

Please help me solve the mystery!

Good suggestion. Since the cab seems to work fine, and i have no experience working on cabs or speakers, I'd rather not start taking it apart and risk screwing something up.

i'm hoping someone with a good knowledge of the Avatar B212 product line and how it's changed over time can comment.

The cab itself weighs ~70 lbs. (it was ~75 shipping weight). I'm pretty sure it's a B212 Delta as noted by above posters. There is a good possibility that the seller actually thought it was a neo.

The cab sounds fine and would probably work well for me. If in fact I decide the seller really was acting on good faith, I might just keep it and move on (unless the value of the Delta is significantly below the Neo, in which case it's a problem). What would you guys do in this situation?

No, not at all. I didn't know the shipping weight was 75 lbs until I already paid for the item and and FedEx already had it. The transaction was already done and the package was already in flight. Even then I thought maybe it was just super heavy packing. That was the yellow flag that caused me to weigh it after receipt. The red flag was that the cab itself weighed 70 lbs. i had no way of knowing this until I received it.

I relied on the sellers description and didn't demand proof of shipping weight before payment to cross check against the actual product weight ...it didn't even cross my mind...doubt it does for most. this whole incident makes me think buying used gear online is generally a bad idea...

So should i hold the sellers feet to the fire or not? Partial refund in order here? :mad:

I was thinking about a red flag for the seller, not you. If I listed something for sale as 56# I'd sure question why I was being charged for a package that weighed 75#.

I'd hit him up for a partial refund since it's not what was advertised and possibly not what you wanted.

The problem is that the tone of the Delta 12LF driver and that of the Deltalite II 2512 driver is totally different, and the D12LF does not have higher output capability than the 2512, just more weight. Now add into the mix the potential that the cab is actually loaded with standard Delta 12s, which have very poor bass output, and the can of worms just keeps getting bigger.
