"Avatar" - the movie

From a purely animation/graphics standpoint, this looks stunning. The story who knows...

I will see this in a theater (or would "theatre" be more correct, Bill? ;) ), just for the visual aspect. I will hope for the actual story to be up to snuff as well, but won't be overly disappointed if it doesn't measure up to the animation.

Cameron's got a solid track record, so I think it'll be good.

BTW, it wasn't mentioned in this thread yet, but the movie is supposed to be in 3D. I think it'll be released in both 3D and 2D, depending on what theater you go to, but the intent is for it to be in 3D.

My son and I will go see it. He was a big Avatar fan.

If you mean Avatar, as in the Last Airbender, thats a different movie. There is a movie coming out called The Last Airbender, which is the Nickelodeon show, but this is a different thing.

Unless there was a different show I dont know of.

IMO, this may give D-9 a run for its money on the CG side of things.

I just hope there's an actual script. People love the Star Wars movies, but I hated them because there was zero thought given to the script. I don't mind special effects, but without a decent script to display them against, it's every bit as bad as great musicians who write bad songs.

Yeah, that's it. I saw a preview last time I took him to the movies.

Meh. I'm looking forward to 9, and beyond that Alice in Wonderland.
D-9 looks interesting, and maybe 2012 for the CGI stuff (though I've no doubt the story will suck).

Alice in Wonderland is not something I'm looking forward to. I just can't see a lot of the very clever humour in the books coming over well in this type of movie.

The media over here have been going on about nothing else apart from this being the first "proper" 3D film!!

I think it's seen as rescuing the film/movie industry as this is something that cannot really be pirated...?

So - at the moment, most blockbusters lose a lot of money to pirated copies and free content on the web.

But if a big selling point is that it is a 3D spectacular - then there is no point in watching a cheap pirated copy ...:eyebrow:

The question is whether this will be the kind of film that will bring people flocking back to see films in the cinema ...?
