My avatar, as well as many if not all of the others, has the sides clipped off. Rectangular avatars are being clipped to square, rather than shrunk to fit.

NVM, I stumbled across the "mark all read" button, although damned if I could ever find it again. Things appear or disappear in odd ways or places.
OK, re avatars, I re-uploaded and the edges are still clipped when viewing. So, I guess we are forced to use square graphics as input, otherwise they will be cropped. Yes?
Well, you're not really forced to upload square pics - you can drag your avatar to adjust the crop if it's not square, before you hit "ok". See screenshot. But yeah, avatars shown on posts are square.
