Average White Band. 2 basses?

This is a screenshot from a youtube vid on AWB. Any idea what is going on here? Did they play tunes with 2 basses often?

When you have a band with 2 great bass players why not, great goobly gobs of awesome bass from AWB. IMHO Allen and Hamish ought not be overlooked as bass players not to mention that are just a BA on guitars and vocals. They are likely covering what was created in the studio using different basses and playing styles.

I recall the learning challenge of getting those often very tricky bass lines to fit with all the other parts.

I had the good fortune to see AWB live here in St. Louis in the mid eighties.
Hamish and Alan passed the bass and guitar back and forth between each other, with out breaking
a stride. The groove never lagged or faltered for a second.

I believe the two bass thing was part of their live act for a while. They were really something back in the day.
