b string doesnt fit

So on my 5 string warwick, the string doesnt fit in the bridge. not the hole the slit it lays in. Its the end of the string and its woven alittle fatter at the end. must I get a different kind of string?

Also, I use normal gauge on my b string and one gauge heavier on my others but break them often. What heavier strings are out there that are reasonably priced.

Filing out the tail piece is normal practice and not a big deal - just be careful not to hit the finish on top where it's visible. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, your local luthier will do it for around $20.

Also, you can take some pliers and/or a hammer and flatten the ball-end of the string. Been doing that for years without issue.

Never had that problem even if I've always heard about it. More recent tailpieces on 5er and 6ers fit up to .155 or maybe more. I use .135 on my $$ 5er and they fit just fine, .132 on my Thumb 6er: no problem. If the strings you're using have a silk taping at the ball end, simply remove it. If the problem persists, you can either file the tailpiece or use pliers to compress the string at the ball end.
