Back to the low end after 25 yrs

Good day folks!

My name is Hernán. Long time lurker, first time poster. Just a short message to say hello.

Long story short. I played bass for a few years in my teens. I never was a great player but certainly had lots of fun in the garage with my friends. Then life happened and the bass had to be sold. Studies, career, family came after. 25 years passed without touching a string.

I never stopped feeling affinity for the low end though and the day came when I decided it was about time to return. That day was today. I have just ordered a new bass from my local store (Gretsch G2220 short scale), something to begin again with (that will suit my small hands).

The plan is simple and down to earth, practice at home as a hobby to learn and enjoy, and to help wind down from the daily job stress. I have no intention of joining bands or anything like that. Right now it will be bass just for the pleasure of it. At least as far as plans can go.

Looking forwards to learn more from you!

If asked do take them up on joining a band. Playing with others is a lot of fun and will force you to keep current on the new stuff that is now available through the Internet.

Thank you, @Malcolm35 for the welcoming. You are right that playing with others is great. I am sure the time will come, but I must first take the rust off my fingers:)

Welcome indeed.
I' m another guy that took a long break from playing, then came back to it.
I haven't had much luck in getting a decent band situation going...some jam sessions, a couple of low-key gigs...but I'm happy enough not to get too involved in the whole hassle of 'serious' music-making.
Keep it fun, is my motto and advice.

Oh My Deity! Your summary was like reading my own - except I left it longer and didn't play for as long to begin with. I never did shake that low end yearning though. I've bought several basses over the years but never done anything serious about learning/playing - until now!

If you can, take a few lessons from a pro bass teacher, just to get you on the right track, and do what I haven't yet: play with other people.

Haha thank you. I guess you want to mean "Go on, boy!" that would be more like "Kör på, kille!" :)
