Back-Up Amp Question...

Hello all, I've recently stumbled upon a 66 Fender Blackface at a house that my girlfriend was looking at. The guy said he'd sell it to me for $50... yeah $50!! So I was thinking about selling my Kustom Groove Bass 1200 to fund the "bringing it back to playable form", as it does need some work to be playable... I'm just wondering if that's a good decision to sell such a loud amp for a vintage Bassman to be used only as a back up. I have a Traynor YBA-200 and play small to medium bars n whatnot. I'm pretty pumped up about it, if nothing else than for recording!!!

if you always have good PA support and can mic your cab, then it would be a good investment. There is no line out on those old Bassmans so you will need a mic like an sm57 or such.

$50 is nothing nowadays, so if you get it for that price, just pick it up and have fun. Fender amps, tube ones, have a very biting sound, even with low wattage they sound loud (don't feel loud, but that's another story.). --Kent

I wouldn't sell anything else, just scrape together the 50 bucks. If you sell your Kustom, the Bassman will not be an acceptable back up. Not enough oompf and they will distort and feedback and they are very noisy. Great Guitar Amps Though!

Pony up the $50

Then save gig money a little at a time, and fix her back up at your own speed.

I totally agree. I never sell anything unless I'm sure I'll never use it again or if I'm sure I don't like it anymore. Buy it and fix it up one step at a time.
