Backline head with Ampeg cab!

Well, i finally got a decent set up. I had about $900 so i went with an Ampeg SVT-410HLF used for 599, and a GK Backline 600 new for 300...got them to throw in a warranty and a monster cable, and they also took some money off (which im assuming they planned with the cabs price being not much lower than new) The Whole setup after tax was about $860. This is definaly a whole lot better than my old 50 watt combo ive been screwing around on. Heres one question though if any of you could answer.

The head is 300 watts at 4 Ohms..and the cab is rated at 500 watts rms at 4 Ohms....is this setup fine? im assuming it is as long as i pay attention to the sound and make sure theres no clipping. I might go with a better head in the near future...something under $500 though...

congrads, yes its fine. i usually reccomend a b2r for this kinda thing cuz its 350 watts and ther edirt cheep. but hey if your happy, who cares.

youl probably want a new head, like your saying, in the near future but deal with it as it comes, dont push too hard on it for now as 300w is enough for alot of places.

Personally, I think you made a fine choice!

I recommend that you read FDeck's review of the BL600 to learn more about how the EQ is voiced ("flat" is not "flat")

Since the BL600 is a 300 watt amp, you don't want to use up all its power reserves unnecessarily boosting bass.

I was trying out the BL210 combo when I first came across this article (same amplifier section as the BL600 head) and it really helped me find great tones.

The BL600 is a fine amp and it has the very same power amp as the GK 400RB head. No need to be in a hurry to replace it.

Don't worry that BL 600 is a workhorse. Yea its only 300 watts but has plenty of power and tons of headroom. I have it in GK BLs 210 combo and run it with a sunn 410 cab and soon a GK 410 and have played indoors and out no problems in a classic rock band with 2 loud 1/2 stack 50 and 100 watt head players. People on this board think and say you need 500 to 1000 watts to be effective i would put my rig against any and never push it and i play thru active Fenders...thou i do use a sans-amp knock off pedal a Behringer v-tone to thicken the sound...again i never push it and its very loud and clear in med size clubs and outdoors.Good deal by the way.

only 300 watts? dude...... 300 watts is alot man.. whats with people saying its too low for 300 watst etc. i dont get it.
