Ok, I just got the Bad Monkey this morning at GC for $36.After about 30 minutes of playing my first impression is very good.It sounds quite similar to my Boss Super OD with a Boss GE7-B run after it but I can now get it with one pedal. The lows are very good and the bypass seems pretty decent as well.I've noticed a digital brittleness when bypassing other Digitech pedals but the Bad Monkey is analog so that might be the difference.I wanted the Sparkeldrive but GC didn't have it and even if it's a little better,at $120 I think i'll stick with the Bad Monkey.Of course I have to test it with my band to know if I really want to keep it but right now i'm pretty sure i'll be holding on to it.The only thing that I want to do is mabye get an ODB-3 and put it head to head with the Bad Monkey.I know the ODB-3 has a lot higher gain but i'm more concerned about the low end, bypass tone and if it lets my natural bass sound come through at all.Anybody else that uses the Bad Monkey, I would appreciate some of your settings to try out...............
I have both pedal you mention here and I prefer the bad monkey for adding a "light crunch" to the sound without losing the low. I'm very happy with it for the price I paid. The ODB-3... eh its ok. I can sound like a 4 stringed guitar using it but it never really leaves the practice room. Its either muddy or losing the low.. neither of which appeal to me in a band setting.
I can't believe that more people haven't discovered this pedal yet.I was messing around with it today and to be honest I think i'm in shock! I just cant belive that a $36 pedal that was made for guitar sounds so good.I know that someone must have some settings that they can share........
