Baer ML-112 high resell rate?

I have noticed that the Baer ML-112 had made a huge splash by being a cutting edge super cab. Reading posts and reviews it seems to appeal to the Bergantino clientele who wants ultimate kind of cabs.

I have also noted that very few cabs get resold as often in the classified. They are a factory direct only cab so without the ability of testing them in a store, this is obviously a contributing factor. I also suspect that the bass players buying these cabs tend to test the newest and best before moving on to the next innovation in bass cabinets.

All that being said they still get resold at what seems to be like a high rate, is there any other reasons for that?

Ive only heard good things about these cabs. But remember so many on TB flip gear they way many of us change our underwear. OFTEN...
The working pro players tend to stay with stuff and learn that piece of gear longer.. Many of the weekend warriors flip flip flip hear IMO // Nothing wrong with weekend warriors. They support the companies with their turnover of product

Interesting. There's so much flavor of the month here. I tend to watch it all for entertainment. I've watched seemingly countless products go in and out of vogue. The folks who seem to be happiest are those who buy when either there's a big shift in technology that will clearly benefit them or buy when their gigging needs change.

Personally, I buy very seldom and when I do it is for the reasons mentioned above, and music is my secondary form of income. Very secondary. I'm at the point where I could easily go down to one rig, one DI and two basses and be done for life. I'm one good preamp away from that goal.

The other side of this is that anyone in a flyover state has a hard time trying different basses and gear. Buy, try and flip is the dominant method of finding what works for far too many players. Get togethers are very important events for local to regional level players, those events can help one narrow down so many choices.

Probably more a tendency to notice more of what you are looking for vs a high rate of resale compared to other brands or models.

I was curious as to the validity of this so I did a search. I respectfully disagree with it after doing so. They do come up periodically but nowhere near as often as other brands do. There have been only 3 ML112 ads (two ads selling a pair) all summer that I could find and 2 of those are quite recent. 1 ML212 and 2 ML115 in the same time period. 0.02 c.
Awesome cabs by the way.

I don't disagree with you on this point. However do a search and look at the total number and the result seemed quite high to me.
Do you own an ML112 and if you no longer do why?

Just as an aside, I did buy my third one used here on TB from a fellow Canadian and was stoked to be able to do so. Between the dollar exchange and the shipping, they're not cheap. Thankfully the exchange was much better when I bought the 2 new ones earlier.

One reason for that is probably the world of bass playing is not quite as familiar with Baer bass products, as opposed to Ampeg, or GK. You don't see them as much in the classifieds as you do the aforementioned brands. I always check out other bass players' gear when I'm out and about, and hardly ever see any of the " boutique " type bass heads, or cabs being used. Pretty much Ampeg, GK, and Peavey. On the other hand, I hardly ever see any Peavey gear in the classifieds, even though it's market has to be larger than Baer's, I would imagine.

When a new "boutique" product hits the TalkBass market there can be a rush of excited people buying it, based to some degree on the hype and to some degree on well-respected TBer's reviews and opinions. Sometimes after that original surge of purchases you will see a flood of that hot new product on the TalkBass classified pages, as the buyers had their chance to check it out and for what ever reason are moving on. The scarcity of Baer Cabinets in the classified speaks to the idea that most of these customers are happy with their purchase. Combine that with the relative few cabinets that were made/sold(compared to Ampeg, GK, Peavey, etc.) and that is probably why you haven't seen a lot of them for sale.
As far as the relatively high resale - it's hard to know what the going rate is when there is such a small sample to base resale on. I have one of those ML-115s in the classified and to my knowledge it was the first one to be sold there. I had no previous sale thread to base my price on so I had to come up with a price based on: 1)At what price did the other Baer Cabs(ML-112, ML212) sell and 2)What would I pay for a used one as opposed to just ponying up for a new one.
My price may be high- I just don't know yet. It seems there is another ML-115 for sale now at the same price. I don't know what that seller based their price on, maybe the same process, maybe based on my price. I will say that it's an awesome cabinet, and if I were going to keep 3 Baer cabinets I would keep it. I bought mine sound-unheard based on spec, really positive reviews, and a very satisfying conversation with the builder. Sometimes you go with your gut....

Peace

This is exactly how/why I ordered my first ML112. Reviews I read in print and on TB, a conversation with Roger and a strong gut feeling. I was impressed enough to buy a second one within the year. When I found the 3rd used one, i sold my DNA410 and bought it too.
For me, they're keepers. There may be a shiny new toy coming to market, or other boutiques already on the market that are comparable but these are plenty good enough for me. Although I wouldn't balk at trading one of my 12's for an ML115.

One thing that I think is likely another contributing factor to the resell rate is that he has recently released a version 2 of the ML112, and is working on a version 2 of the ML212. He may have also redone the ML115, but I'm not sure.

I've heard of a few members owning and keeping both versions, and I'm sure some also like the version 1 better. That said I have not played any of his cabs, but like Lowendtech I've read great reviews here, have a strong gut feeling that the cabs will suit me, and have talked Roger a bit on this forum. I really want the ML212, but finances and the knowledge that there is a version 2 being worked on has kept me from jumping on the one currently in the classifieds.

I don't think the resell is the way it is strictly because Roger is making and has made new versions that people want to try, but I suspect that it is playing a roll in the resell rate you mention.

One of the differences in someone like Roger Baer and GK or some other mainstream company, is that GK wants to make products at certain price points. So what ever components or testing or whatever is involved in the product, it must be done within a specific price point. Roger just wants to make the best product he can, and then see how much he needs to sell it for. The ML112 has had rave reviews from most everyone, and received "best product" awards at NAMM.
There are many Talkbass enthusiasts who enjoy trying the latest gear just to check it out. Even if they like a piece of gear they'll still sell it in order to fund the next "thing". I think the ML112 is a flat out killer of a box. One of the few boxes that work great for both electric and upright bass. Works well at the lowest to the highest volume you need. (within reason) Also, I believe Baer offers a 7 day try out period. Also, many of the "working" players can't always afford the best gear, even though they could get the most benefit from it. To an extent it's the hobbyists and guys with a little more spendable income who can experiment on upper end gear with no fear. The ML112's seem to hold their value because they're a fantastic piece of gear.
