Bag End Cabs:

Those look like the exact same speakers in my 2x12. The pic of the speaker is taken through the port directly behind it. Each speaker has one about three or so inches in diameter. Most certainly a bass and guitar cab.

email [email protected] with the serial numbers. Dan Saraceno is his name and he's always answered my inquiries in a day or so, and is very thorough and a pleasure to chat with.

Good to hear! You've kept my interest going with these things:smug: I got in touch with Bag End still waiting to hear back. Thanks!

I have only seen/played through one Bag End Q12M and that one was an oiled birch cabinet version.

In a 1990 listing the Q12M is captioned as a vented 4x12 midrange cabinet, 1600 watts @ 8 ohms.

Series I: 172 lbs. $1,390.00 list
Series II: 165 lbs. $1,180.00 list

I recall that Bass Player magazine did a brief review back in their early years and included a decent photo.

Thanks for the info! I'd love to get a copy of that Bass Player Magazine review. Can't find anything on the "Q12M"! Not even a single picture!

Found this on Harmony Central from August 2010:

"i have 2 stacks of Q12 cabs that were special order for my old guitar player and i ended up with them. I am looking to sell them. i am in a $ bind and trying to unload most of my gear. these are rediculous. they have bag end E12 speakers in them and each speaker is in its own insulated box in the cabinet, ive never seen anything like it. check out the 2 12 they make and this is the same but with 4 speakers
Bag End Loudspeakers 847 382 4550
i didnt see a direct link but the cabs are D12-D. mine arent red, they are black carpet covered. email me if interested. they can take 1600watts peak! they are just nuts...special order was $1500 each, made in 93. i am asking $350. i am in socal if you are local. i can send pics...anything
thanks

He says they have four E-12 speakers in them. Here's one from my D-12-D cab:

If your cabs have the E-12 then you are in bass cab heaven. :D

Found the BP review from way back in the JAN/FEB 1992 issue.
The picture was a poor quality b&w so I won't scan it.

Vital Statistics:
Type: rear vented 4x12 cabinet
Retail price: $1390.00
Drivers: 4 Bag End -12s
System impedance: 8 ohm
Frequency response: 60Hz to 5kHz
Powe handling: 800watts continuous, 3,200 watts peak
Sensitivity: 105dB 1 watt 1 meter
Inputs: Two 1/4 inch full range
Dimensions: 27" x 27" x 15"
Weight: 162 lbs.

Excellent point.

I personally guarantee they are bass cabs and will return his money if they are not.*

*offer not valid

You have done some exceptional investigative work on this case! :) I am definitely gonna pick these up and if something bizarre happens and Bag End gets back to me and they're not I'll still hold on to them for guitar since they're such a good deal. That ad that you found really did wonders! Funny that you'd find a single ad on these cabs rather than any other talk whatsoever. Now the big question is...would two of these make sense when hooking them up to a Mesa 400+. They're 1600 watts each so I'm not sure if it makes too much sense...AHHH! Thanks again though, you've been awesome!

Wow awesome! Thanks a lot. So I guess they're 800 watts? So maybe both would still make sense? I would've never found this stuff.:)

I'm puzzled by the 60hz figure. The D12-D is rated at 50hz so I would have pegged the Q12 at a lower figure. Hmm.

Thats peak watts though..isn't that basically headroom? I thought continuous watts were the same as the RMS rating. My Eden 410xlt has 700 watts RMS and I use two of those with my 400+

Guess I should have put a :hiding: in my post.

Bag Ends are (in)famous for absurd power handling capabilities. I was riffing on that with my snarky post.

But hey, who WOULDN'T want 8 Mesa 400+s??? (Other than your bass tech.)

Haha alright gotcha! I was like wait am I thinking straight here? And..I definitely wouldn't mind another Mesa 400+..I've got a Eden VT-40 running two BE S15B-Ds on the other side though. So the big test comes when I get these in and compare them to 410XLT.

BP Profile had this Manufacturer's Response:

"The AQF1 and the Q12M represent the best of our two styles of loudspeaker systems.
The AF1 is an accurate loudspeaker designed to faithfully reproduce the eletrical input. With this typr of loudspeaker, the character of the sound comes only from the instrument itself (perhaps modified by tone controls and effects).
The Q12M represents a different style of loudspeaker, one with an acoustical output that differs from the electrical input - this is commonly called "coloring" the sound. With this type of loudspeaker, the sound produced is a combination of the instrument, the effects, and the loudspeaker itself. This second approach offers a unique sound character that is chosen because it's pleasing to the musician's taste."

Oh, and the last line of the BP Profile goes like this:

" The Q12M looks great - you'll probably want a pair to stack."

ALL bag end cabs are for bass or guitar. sure they have separate "categories" for each in their site, but there is no difference at all, none. their drivers are designed to have enough booty for bass use and enough top for guitar use. the S15 family are absolutely my favorite bass cabs ever but i don't dig 'em for guitar at all. but i have a good feeling i'd Love a double 1-12 guitar stack...
