Quite honestly, I don't think AJ could play like Bakithi. Both are insane bass players though. That Graceland album is a masterpiece and should be used as a masterclass annually!

What bass was he using?

He was playing a purple, fretted, 5-string. I wasn’t close enough to identify the brand, but the headstock appeared consistent with Fender.

Like most of us, Bakithi is a gear whore LOL. These last few years he's been playing NS designs (fretless and upright) and Carvin/Keisel (fretted) basses through PJB amps. But it's always something different with him.
