Yep, the Jaco stories are priceless. The whole Bobby Columby thing, in retrospect, couldn't have gone any differently. The partnership with Zawinul was a match made in heaven. I still remember reading Victor Bailey's comments when he got the gig. Something like...

"I wanted to show him I was worthy, so I brought out my whole bag. Zawinul heard me play for a bit, and then said..."

"Don't try to play bebop in my band, my friend. Jaco played in my band and you can't replace him."

The only mystery to me is how many young cats today totally dismiss Jaco, based solely on weaksauce youtube vids from some of his later days, when his demons had taken over. Listen to Weather Report, Joni Mitchell, et al...and things become clear pretty quickly.

Anyway... Shoulder. Thanks for asking, my friend. Woof. We don't need to go there. In the whole scheme of things, though, I'm still one lucky and blessed cracker.

Jaco stories are amazing in and of themselves. The stuff of legends.
Young cats dismissing Jaco is pretty self explanatory. YOUNG CATS.. They all come around as their heads are slowly extracted from their hind quarters..

Well, it's no Jaco or RB, but I did sneak in a little more recording and mixing time on Rick K's tune "Skyway". This is still a rough mix, but I'll try to get Rick to rustle up a better one. He used to own & operate the local recording studio, he really knows what he's doing...

For this mix, I brought out the upper mids on the bass track and hit it with heavy reverb to better match the rest of the mix. And I finished my parts all the way through to the outro. I'm not sure the rest of my playing lives up to the quality of the intro part, but there it is...

Beautiful song and very lyrical fretless playing Greg!

Wow! It reminded me just how awesome Baltimore's 6 string fretless is!
