Band Banners

Basically, trying to work out what is the best value for money, and what will last and survive gigs? PVC ? Canvas? Etc etc

Have a sign company make it for you the same way they do most outdoor type banners - I’m not sure what material is used, but it feels like a plastic/vinyl.

One of my bands has an interesting twist on a banner.
One of the guys with some woodworking skills did a scroll-cut of the band name,
mounted it on the front of a long shallow box, and lit it from the inside.
My 3pc has the band logo on the kick drum, and we still get people asking the name of the band.

I just checked their site out. A 4' x 2.5' banner is about $23.

Be careful with Vista Print. You get what you pay for. I'd say twice a week, people walk into my shop and ask me to install grommets on a VP banner. My shop min is $25, so tack that on. Also, make sure you don't use the 10oz banner material, it won't last at all! There will be no hems on any edges, just a flat vinyl banner. You need the edges hemmed for band use. I've had my little 2' x 5' banner for over 10yrs.

Well, I added the grommets myself. Very easy to do. Banner is still going strong in the 3 years since we got it. You can also get the new style pieces that adhere to the corners of the banner. Those work great.

Here's the only pic of ours after a short search. Vinyl banner with a logo I designed using PhotoShop. Our trailer had a smaller version on each side.

Awww.. so you're a banner tech? :D Don't tell me your band members come to you to fix their stuff too? I need to look back, did you post a pic of your banner?

Hell, I could be. I work in Facilty Mgmt and have to deal with banners all the time. Sometimes you have to install grommets in different parts of the banner in order to get it to hang properly inside a building. Hence my experience in doing so. No I didn't post a pic. I have to look for it.

Had a banner in just about every band I've been with. Everything from vinyl with vinyl lettering\graphics to cloth print to printed on silk. NEVER EVER fold your banner! Always roll it up. I use a piece of PVC (about 2 1/2 or 3 inch ID) with end caps to store it in. Use ball-end bungees (the kind you use for canopies) to attach it to your lighting rig, etc. Never pull it too tight or you'll damage the grommets. Use weights, or additional bungees, to keep it from flapping. I would highly recommend BannerBuzz for printing. They are very very reasonable and can do just about anything. In the examples below, they printed the Black Cat Bone banner on cloth from a picture we sent them and they did the Dirt Road Communion one from a PhotoShop created logo. They even printed an additional DRC one on silk, which really popped in the light! The vinyl banners are more durable, but since the prices were so cheap for the cloth ($130 for a 6x9 including shipping) they can be replaced without breaking the bank. Just handle them with care and they will last a long time.
