Lets see, I own the PA, lights, provide the practice place and truck, and get all the gigs. I've had to get fill in drummers for the odd gig and even threw together a couple of guys once or twice when neither of my guys could make it. I guess that makes me "The Band Leader", although I really don't feel like it.

Fine line between de facto band leader and de facto band sucker. Make sure you stand on the right side of it!

We're an anarcho-syndicalist commune. We take it in turns to act as a sort of executive officer for the week, but all the decisions of that officer have to be ratified at a special bi-weekly meeting by a simple majority in the case of purely internal affairs but by a two-thirds majority in the case of more major...

We, too are an autonomous collective.

I'm the leader I guess.

I have this annoying tendency of being very critical of other people not doing things to the level I feel is acceptable so I just do it myself. I create our posters and get them printed, make the setlists, own/haul/operate the PA and lights plus sing and play bass.

The plus side for my present 3 pc group is that I get a bigger pay percentage from gigs based on the extra effort, so it works out.

most of the bands i've been in had no BL at all, although a few times i found myself become, quite bay accident, the unofficial BL. i rarely have been in bands with BLs, and in one of them i somehow became a co-BL where the original BL and i started making all the decisions, etc, together.

Hooray! After 30 years of being BL, and having to do everything myself, from posters to finding mandolin strings in Austin, I'm finally in a band that I'm just the bass player! I still suggest arrangements, and help with repetoire, but the business end is taken care of.
It's a nice break.
