Barefaced or Revsound?

Looking for a lightweight boutique brand one-cab solution (either 212 or 215). Something that will play nice with a D800+ and give me lot's of clean headroom for reggae. I think there are more Barefaced cabs out in the world since they're a bigger shop, so more discussion and potentially hold their resale value a bit better. But I think they also end up being pricier and have a longer wait time than Revsound.

I'm considering Barefaced Supertwin, Big Twin, and Revsound 215T. I know they're all great cabs, but has anyone compared them? Maybe the barefaced just has more flat response and the Revsound is more colored? I *think* I want a more flat response cabinet so that my DI to the board out of the mesa is a similar tone to what I'm hearing out of my cab, but I've never played any of these cabs so the decision is difficult!

I certainly haven’t heard both, so I’m super-interested to hear from anyone who has.

However, even without hearing them, if you’re looking to sound like the DI, you want a cab that’s essentially FRFR. Like you said, that’s what Barefaced claims, and definitely not what RevSound claims.

And if you’re looking for that FRFR kind of sound, you might also consider Phil Jones Bass. I did my first-ever recording session recently and we went straight in to the board (no amp or cab at all) and it sounds almost exactly like I sound at home on my PJB. I’d suggest a pair of C8s, though that’s probably still more scratch than a Barefaced. Also, if it really has to be a single cab, that’s a 16H, which will definitely run you more than the Barefaced.

I’ve never played a barefaced (unfortunately) but I own a revsound 112. I think it sounds beautiful! I wouldn’t really described it as coloring my tone but the EQ curve of it is very musical. Definitely not FRFR my 112 w/I tweeter only does something in the neighborhood of 60hz-4khz and only wants about ~250watts maximum. But it is extremely efficient and loud as hell for a 112. Can’t recommend revsound enough generally, nice thing with Revsound is if you call up David Luke and say “I want to sound like my DI” he will do it, might not be the way you thought you wanted it, but then you’ll hear it and go..oh yeah, that’s perfect. Some day I’ll get my hands on a 210 or 212 from Revsound for sure.

I have a RevSound 2x10 and I consider it to be very flat response and uncolored. It's a great cab and I like using it for upright. For what I'm going for on electric, I prefer a more colored cab. Since you are looking for a flat response type cab, I think you would be really happy with RevSound. No doubt that it's well made, loud, and light.

My experience with Barefaced is only with their vintage response 10" line, which I like quite a lot for electric bass. I would love to have two of their 2x10s some day.

I have not tried RevSound, but their pricing and customer service definitely are appealing. I have owned multiple Barefaced cabs, and they live up to the hype, for sure. I have had two Big Baby 2s (sold one, because I will never need that much volume on stage), a One10, and a Six10. Definitely go with the 12" cone line of cabs, if you want the FRFR experience.

Well this is true and I should have known that because I've had a 115 on order for about 5 months now :)

I too am a big fan of RevSound, really well built cabs, lightweight and sound great and uncolored. I would second the recommendation to call and talk to David Luke, the owner/builder/designer. 1-603-651-9800 He has a lifetime of experience at designing cabs and I'm sure can guide you towards what you are looking for. He's also a really nice guy in my dealings with him, he's really interested in how you intend to use his cabs and recommends appropriately. No I'm not his cousin or something :), just a customer of his who is really impressed with his products and service. I'm currently using a RevSound 115, bought it to pair with another cab but its so efficient and sounds so good that so far I'm able to use it on its own. 25 lbs.

I would reach out to TB member @gustobassman and see if he will share some insights. He tends to be working in that same general area of bass playing (and he's really good at it). IMO he will have a lot experience and lessons learned to offer that could help you explore options with the potential to satisfy your needs.

RevSound 100%

Works great for upright and BG. When I had a problem with mine, I spoke to David directly. I found out I had the first 48VT he made and the capacitor was not sufficient. He sent me one to solder that was bigger and after I put it in, it worked perfectly. David sent the parts to me for free! Great guy!

After asking me a bunch of questions (what kind of music do you play? Where do you play it?) he talked me out of buying the more expensive 2x12 model I’d proposed. I’ve used the 2x10 he sold me with an 800 watt MoMark on an outdoor gig with no DI. Everybody said they could hear me just fine.
